You don't need to run it, though it does make the profile migration process smoother. If you were to simply go to the machine, set up a new profile for Office 365 for the new migrated mailbox the user will be fine. I assume you or some had already done this on the users? I suppose they would be angry if not;-) The Outlook Assistant addresses the annoyances of manual migration: It creates the profile for Outlook for the user automatically, and it migrates some things from old profile to new that you may have had to fix manually for the users: Outlook signatures, connected PST files, autocomplete cache. It does I believe identify updates that older Office 2007 may need to connect to Office 365 as well. Bottom line though, if you have already migrated and switched over user profiles, I wouldn't go back and run the Outlook Assistant. The time to install that software is pre-migration and then it kicks off the profile updates when you migrate. I've tried this and and also used a competitor software BitTitan UserActivation, with both you sit back and put your feet up while the users are automagically updated to their new Office 365 mailbox, or something like that;-) there will always be little problems to fix but it works pretty well. Somehow my reply got lost. Yeah we did the Skykick Outlook assistant to help with the config changes, and it worked I'd say 80% which isn't too bad. The email migration itself went fine, it was just some config stuff like reminders and signatures that were kind of annoying to lose (not everybody - just a few people). What i'm referring to is the Desktop Setup Wizard available right on the O365 portal. Its only there as a click-to-run app. I was under the impression that it makes any necessary changes to the existing Office install to help it integrate with O365, but on the few we tried, I dont think it did much of anything. No onenote, onedrive, no single sign on stuff, etc etc. What I'm running into is some people who've changed their passwords since the Skykick migration ended are getting double-prompted by Outlook to log in (we've only dipped our toes into the Exchange online sofar, as least for production use). I was wondering if we should run the desktop setup wizard to install a missing single signon component. We do have dirsync running now so its taking the new passwords, just not automatically like you'd expect it to. So we ran it on an existing PC with Office 2007 and it wanted two updates: KB2596993 - Hotfix for Outlook 2007 and KB2630976 - MS Online Services single sign on assistant Seems the second one only links to an article and not a download, however I found under our WSUS server that you have to enable the 'MS Online Services' product classification for that update to show up, so other than the first update, it seems you likely dont need the desktop setup wizard at all, especially in a corporate environment with WSUS (and likely SCCM) available.
